3 Kinds of Access Control Systems

Here are some of the main types of access control systems.

Whether you already have a high-security fence or are thinking of adding one, a great way to increase the security to your home or business is by adding an access control system. The main purpose of an access control system is to give you the ability to limit who can enter your property, or certain areas of it, at any given time. There are many ways that an access control system can do this, and here are some of the main types of access control systems.

Door Access

A door access system is one of the most popular choices for being convenient, inexpensive, and effective. You simply have to choose a door out a room that you want to restrict access to and a reinforced lock with either a keypad or card swipe entry. The door access system is best for designating limited access rooms inside a building, but it can also be a good choice for exterior doors as well.

Biometric

A step up from door access systems is incorporating biometric scanning. Usually, a biometric reader will scan for a fingerprint; but over time, a few errors have been revealed with this method, such as certain health factors that could wear a fingerprint to the point of it being unreadable. Although retinal scans are another option, you won’t usually find them outside of high-security government facilities. However, if you choose a fingerprint scanner, then it, on the whole, will not have any issues, and it brings the convenience of having access literally at your fingertip.

Security Systems

Many people might not immediately think of an alarmed security system as a type of access control system, but it has the same basic similarities. Most security systems are used for homes and smaller properties, where individual room access is not needed. Home security systems are almost always armed and disarmed with a keypad, and will come with added features like a fire and carbon monoxide alarm and CCTV surveillance. Security systems are usually run by a third party that is paid to monitor the property and respond to security threats.
