Summer Maintenance Tips for Commercial Fences

Summer Maintenance Tips for Commercial Fences hercules gsa

While the fences we install are durable and reliable, it’s still important to consistently maintain your fence to keep it in good condition.

The weather affects commercial fences. For example, without a protective coating, the sun can cause a metal fence to rust. Additionally, moisture damage caused by heavy rain affects the appearance and structural integrity of a wood fence that isn’t pressure treated. While the fences we install are durable and reliable, it’s still important to participate in consistent fence maintenance to keep them as pristine as possible. Here are a few summer maintenance tips for commercial fences.

Apply Chemical Treatments to Commercial Fences

Maryland experiences humid summers. Maryland has also experienced a lot of scattered thunderstorms lately. Now is the perfect time to apply chemical treatments if you have a wooden fence because they aid in water and insect damage. Additionally, environmentally-friendly chemical treatments are excellent to use during the summer because the heat allows the chemicals to soak in without harming the environment.

Apply Sealant

Sealants are the perfect cover-up if your fencing has holes, chips, or physical damage and set well when exposed to heat. Ensure that you protect the sealant as it dries if a scattered thunderstorm comes along.

Paint the Fence

Fence paint has the potential to strip off for different causes. If you want your fencing to have the ultimate curb appeal, consider applying a fresh coat of paint each year.

Clear Out Rust

Once again, metal fences are susceptible to rust. As your fencing ages, you might notice corrosion with oxygen and water exposure. Removing rust during dry conditions is best and will prevent damage when it rains or when the sun’s rays radiate a lot of heat. It’s also wise to apply a coat of paint to prevent a metal fence from further rusting.

Clean Regularly

This tip applies to the entire year. If you own a metal fence, clean it with soap and water every few months. If it’s a wooden fence, wiping it down now and then will help. However, try to minimize the amount of water on a wooden fence. You can pressure wash a wooden fence, but it should be on a low setting so as not to damage the wood.
