There are some ways you can be proactive about maintaining your fence

Like any outdoor structure, fences are susceptible to climate conditions. This is especially relevant now when the summer heat is beaming down all day long and could potentially harm your fencing. While a residential fence company may be able to help you with maintaining your fence, there are some ways you can be proactive about keeping your fence in its best shape possible. Regardless of the material your fence is made of and whether or not you decide to involve a residential fence company in its maintenance, use these tips to help protect your fence this summer.

A Basic Inspection

First, it’s time to take a good look at your fence. Walk around the yard and keep your eyes peeled for signs of trouble. This could include rotting wood, excessive moisture in certain areas, or any other visible damage. There may be warning signs that aren’t as clear, such as foliage touching your fence that could end up staining the color of your fence given enough time. This is more common with brick or wood fencing, but all kinds of fences are prone to damage that may go unnoticed. Keeping the area around your fence clean is key in preventing mildew, pests, and other issues that may do damage to your fence.

Tree Trimming

Summer is an ideal time to trim trees whether you have a fence or not, but it’s especially great if you do have a fence and your trees are hanging over it. Large, hanging tree branches can end up getting broken off during any kind of inclement weather, so it’s best to plan ahead during the sunny summer and trim your trees. Otherwise, you may risk a tree branch breaking part of your fence, which would require a residential fence company to come in and repair any damages.

Further Issues

Check for anything else that needs repairing and could indicate a more serious issue. Posts pulling away from the fence, loose bolts, squeaking gates, rusting, rotting, insects or other pests, wobbling posts, and damaged sections are all cause for concern. Just be sure to reach out to your local residential fence company like Hercules GSA for any issues you need a hand with.
