How to Create a Business Security Plan

No one knows better than you how valuable your business is. Protecting your business through physical security measures is of utmost importance, but it is equally critical that you start by taking care of security on the tactical level. By developing a security plan you will have a solid backbone to build off of that will ensure that there are no gaps in protecting your business. Here are some important considerations to help you create a security plan for your business.

Identify Your Valuables

Unlike in home security that is focused on preventing the theft of jewelry or family heirlooms, there are a lot of elements of your business that you consider valuable. It could be physical valuables like equipment and money, but it could also be preting your data and information as well as protecting the safety of your employees. Once you identify what things are the most valuable in your business, then you have a way to prioritize your security plan.

Plan for Growth

When creating a security plan, you need to consider the current size of your business and how it will grow. Often, businesses start off in a small location and either move or expand. How you build your security system will differ depending on whether you have a stand alone building or are an office in a building complex. Generally the best thing you can do is use as much security for the part of the property that you control but make sure that any features can be easily adjusted in the future when you have the opportunity to grow your company.

Surrounding Factors

There are many other things that could influence how you want to create your security plan besides your business’s needs. The location of your business can affect whether you need more or less security, if it is in a high-crime part of town for instance. Also, if your business is open longer or shorter than other places around you, then you should invest in a 24/7 security system that will protect your business when no one is around.
