Active and passive security barriers work in exactly the same way.
Types of Active Barriers
Active security barriers are often used to control vehicular traffic around your property. The most familiar example of this is the drop-arm gate that is controlled by a gate operator, which is common in toll booths. The barrier itself does not have to be moving, but it should be able to be moved. For example, temporary fencing is another common active security barrier. Passive security barriers are similarly related to controlling road traffic. Because they are not meant to move or be moved, passive security barriers are a permanent feature of a property. These columns or poles are short but sturdy and can resist the impact from a vehicle at varying speeds, depending on their K-rating. Even certain terrain and landscaping can be used as a passive security barrier to make it difficult for a vehicle to directly enter unauthorized areas of your property.
